Originally from Dieppe, Dr. Chantal Arsenault did her Family Medicine residency at Laval University in 1990. Over the years, she practiced in a private office, in the emergency room and as a hospitalist at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. She was clinical professor, teaching psychiatry at the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick at the Université de Sherbrooke, and even starred in an educational film to illustrate personality disorders. She was also a speaker on osteoporosis and mental health, a “health columnist” for the program “Les Éclaireurs” on Radio-Canada National radio, host of meetings with authors at the Fire Literary Festival in Moncton and Chair of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital’s Physician’s Public Relation Committee, where she was also the founder and director of the Physician’s Choir. Passionate about music, she recorded an art-jazz-pop album, “Une virgule”, as a singer-songwriter. As she approaches her last years of private practice, after experiencing the digitization of the medical records of her 2000 patients at the age of 55, Dr. Arsenault still cultivates a passion for the therapeutic relations she has with her patients. She further avoids crumbling under the weight of bureaucracy that the pandemic has “unmasked further” by “choosing carefully” resilience, creativity, and gratitude.
Dr. Francois Swart received his bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery in 1991 from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He practiced in Ermelo, South Africa, from 1996 to 2015, before settling in Miramichi. Dr. Swart is a Member-at-Large for the local Medical Advisory Committee in Miramichi. He also has held positions on the Credentials Committee and the Medication Incident Variance Committee at Miramichi Regional Hospital since 2021.Dr. Swart volunteered to be a beta-tester for the Electronic Health Record System (EHR) Profile and regularly advocates for enhancing the EHR capabilities in order to provide physicians with a better patient care resource. In response to COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Swart volunteered to work in the Miramichi Hospital COVID unit (4 West), even when staffing was at its lowest. Dr. Swart is dedicated to continuing medical education, regularly inviting Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship medical students to sessions where he teaches unique clinical concepts.
Dr. Chris Martin received his bachelor of science from Mount Allison University in 2005 completed his doctorate in medicine at Dalhousie University in 2010, and his family medicine residency at the Saint John Regional Hospital in 2012. Dr. Martin took over his father’s practice in Miramichi 10 years ago and has been practicing there since. With a a passion for teaching, Dr. Martin became a preceptor for family medicine/emergency medicine and family medicine residency programs in New Brunswick in 2014. Since 2016, he has also supervised medical students in the The Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship Dalhousie (LICD) program. He is currently an assistant professor at Dalhousie University. His former students and residents describe him as “engaging, empathetic, and collaborative.” Dr. Martin is currently working at developing a family medicine residence program in the Miramichi region. Dr. Martin and his wife, Kathleen, are the parents of three girls – Renee, Cameron, and Penelope.

Dr. Lagacé is also the local OBS/Mother-Child Division of the Acadie-Bathurst Zone since 2020. The openness, listening, empathy and great gentleness skills she demonstrates are at the heart of the care she provides, and it is these human values that Dr. Lagacé tries to transmit to the students and residents she has under her wing. The birth of a child is an unforgettable event, and Dr. Lagacé has left her mark on all families who cross her path. She and her husband Patrick are parents of two children: Léane and Félix. as leader.

In addition to being a Canadian leader in the Patient Medical Home model, Dr. Arseneau has a significant impact on his community, is a leader in his field, and has helped many graduate residents understand the business aspects of medicine. He quickly recognized the importance of the COVID-19 pandemic and made the Chaleur region ready for all eventualities. More recently, Dr. Arseneau recognized the importance of First Nations in his community by designating a memorial site in front of his clinic to commemorate the 215 children buried in unmarked sites on the grounds of the former Indian Residential School in Kamloops, British-Colombia.
